Am I going to be orange...

I get asked this question constantly. And the answer is no.

There is no reason your tan should not be natural and beautiful. Turning orange is from DHA over saturation. DHA is the main ingredient in all spray tan solutions.

Individuals who continue to spray tan without exfoliating will appear orange. Simple as that. Adding layers of spray tan solution without exfoliating will give you that undesirable appearance. Your skin sheds and if you skip the exfoliating process you will not only look orange, but patchy and blotchy.

Therefore, when you see people that look orange, it’s probably because they did not partake in the proper prep for their sunless tan.

Do yourself a favor and scrub, scrub, scrub!

Side note: Sophie is in town for the week. The big city makes her sleepy.

Be my Valentine…

For over four years now I have been getting sprayed. My aunt got me hooked my junior year of high school when I got one for winter formal. I could not believe my eyes. One minute I looked like Elmer’s glue, the next I looked like an islander. In that moment I fell in love.

I used spray tanning in high school off and on. Usually just for special occasions. But now it is part of my beauty regiment, every Thursday I spray myself. Without it I would be a little sad.

Ya see, spray tans and I have been together for four long years. We started off casual and then our relationship really took off once I started taking spray tanning seriously. But now I am crazy about them. They never let me down, always make me feel beautiful, and keep me comin’ back for more.

So this Valentine’s Day, my love goes out to spray tans. I love you.

A Sun Kissed Face...

I have a new love. And I may love it more than antiquing…which is a lot. It's Sun Spray’s new facial touch up spray! Aunt Kath designed the formula and label. So cute.

Reasons why I LOVE it:

  1. When you get a spray, your face color is the first thing to go because of washing it everyday, wearing make-up, etc. This fixes that.
  2. My face and neck are always sun kissed in between visits.
  3. It looks natural. It doesn’t look like someone just caked on 2 inches of bronzing foundation or powder.

To apply, use a rounded foundation brush or make-up pad (pad is easiest) spray the product onto the pad and blend it into your face, don’t forget your neck. A tan face, with a pale neck, equals not cute or natural. Wait about ten minutes to put on any facial powder (no liquid) and you’re done. Now you look like one hot mama.

Sun Spray will be selling this soon for $24. I have used it about 4 times in the last two months and I haven’t even put a dent in it. I love it!

Go get your own coffee…

I knew at a young age that my mind set on the workforce was a little different. I could not wrap my head around the idea that my ma' goes to work Monday through Friday from seven in the morning to three in the afternoon, day in and day out. The idea of that gives me an aneurism, but to each their own.

I also figured out that I don’t want to be the girl who: fixes the copier, goes on coffee runs, and gets her fabulous and innovative ideas overlooked.

Could this be a diva mind-set? Maybe. But mostly the mind-set of a young entrepreneur.

The idea of running a bigger business than the one I have now makes my mouth water. I want it so bad and my gosh, I am going to get it!

One of the greatest reality checks/advice I was given thus far in my entrepreneurial journey was in The Business Builders Club. A woman that owned her own consulting business said: “your first business will not be your money maker.” At first I thought, well damn. But secondly I thought…this is great news, because my next business venture will be even greater!

I am thankful to know what I want out of my career path, not many can say that. And as my ma’ always says to me: “do what you love and love what you do.”

“So how did you get into this anyway?”

The timeless question that I get asked by all new clients and the story goes like this…

About two years ago I was getting ready to pack up and finish my degree at Ohio State. I spent a lot of time thinking about what kind of job I would have. But moving somewhere new, cooking, cleaning, studying, and going to class, plus working as a waitress seemed like a pretty heavy load. Considering I have never been away from home before.

While getting my weekly spray tan at my Aunt Kath’s studio I was talking to her about life’s stresses. (Spray tan = therapy session) She suggested I learn how to spray tan and start my own business down there. I thought, “little ol’ twenty-one year old me start a business?” At first I thought she was insane, but then I realized the idea was genius.

The next week I got a spray tan and Aunt Kath told me that it was my turn. She instructed me on some techniques, handed me the gun, and I spray tanned her. Learning to spray is a baptism by fire thing; you just do it and feel it. For the next few weeks I gathered some of my closest friends and practiced on them. By the end of the summer I was a spray tanning machine! And about 100’s of spray tans later, I’d say I’m pretty damn good at it.

In case you were wondering my Aunt Kath has been spray tanning for ten years. She was the first person in my home town (Toledo, Ohio) to start spray tanning. She is a phenomenal business woman and has grown her business tremendously over the past few years. I am proud to say that I have learned all I know about the spray tan business through her.

The actual process of starting the business is for another day.

Until then,
